[REVIEW] Daiso Silicone Moisturizing Mask

Last year I wrote an entry about Best Cosme Ranking in Japan (in Thai) which is a ranking by a site called @cosme, the most popular cosmetic reviews site in Japan. You could say it’s an award because after being crowned the Best Cosme by this site, most of the products will use this title to promote. If you ever own one of the Best Cosme products, they will have a small little sticker with a #1 and a crown printed on it. And by my own experience of buying a lot of Best Cosme products just because it was crowned the best, they are indeed good products worth buying.

Daiso silicone mask is also one of the beauty products that made the list last year. I am particularly interested in it because it looks weird and I don’t know what it is used for. But since it’s by Daiso, the biggest 100 Yen shop chain in Japan, it’s 100 Yen! Too cheap to not buy.

What is this thing?

So, I think you can see from the photo that it looks like a normal facial mask. It has holes for eyes, nose and mouth. The best part is it also has earloops, so you can cling it to your ears.

What is it for?

According to the description on the back of the package, you can use it 2 ways:

1.Use it on top of other facial masks: So that the content of the mask doesn’t evaporate as you have the silicone mask on top like a cover. And the mask won’t dry on you. The photo above i use it with the facial mask I use regularly.

2.Use it as a sauna mask in your bathtub: This works in Japan because they have a culture ofお風呂(Ofuro)” which basically means relaxing in the bathtub with really hot water everyday. So the steam that comes from the water combine with the mask blocking your face from breathing, it’s basically sauna-ing your face.

I usually use it for the 1st purpose as I don’t use Ofuro, I just shower normally.

Actual usage:

It’s a very simple concept actually. The silicone mask was just blocks your face from breathing and things evaporating from your face. So it works well in that sense.

Use it on top of other masks: Now this work very well. I used it on top when I use other cotton masks, and my mask doesn’t dry up on me at all. After 10-15 minutes, it stays as wet and sticky like when I first applied. Usually when I the mask dries on me, I think it’s not like my face absorbed everything but more like it evaporated and I’m getting nothing. So this silicone mask can help you get as much as you could from a mask. Plus, it has earloops so I don’t have to worry about my facial mask peeling or falling off at all.

Use it as a sauna mask in your bathtub: I don’t do this. But I did try it in the shower because I shower with really hot water anyway so I thought it might work. What happened was it gave me the feeling like my face is not clean and it is not breathing at all. It’s a very uncomfortable.  After shower, I feel like my face is a bit steamed though. So I think it does what it claims in that sense. But my recommendation is use it with bathtub, it should work better.

Conclusion:

I think it works really well! The concept is really simple. The cost of this product is definitely cheap. But the idea is really amazing. The person who came up with this simple but functional idea is a genius. I totally understand why it’s “Best Cosme”. And the fact that it’s a 100 Yen make it my favourite beauty gadget this month. :D

ps. If anyone are interested in the Best Cosme ranking, i will re-write it here. ^^
